As some of you will know I have looked for subject Gef.Std. a very long time to no avail.  Berlin-Wannsee has been one known location, but where?  Then recently I had a breakthrough when Col W. Falck’s biography was advertised on the Internet and it contained a sample from the period where he joined Lw.Bef. Mitte – the later Lft. Reich.

Falck states on p.268:

This was a giant breakthrough.

Of course I could also have read K.O. Hoffmann , Band II, Teil 2 p. 316 ff. a little more carefully about 30 years ago !  Hoffmann states:

[No wonder Falck talks about "klein und einfach".]

Site plan, please note the bunkers (grey rectangles) to the NE and SW, sadly they are both partly demolished.  From K.O. Hoffmann's description the SW bunker must be Herold 1.  Location thanks to "Thomas K", Berlin, who also took the photos below.

To make a very long story, very short the bunker was thus identified as a bunker on the grounds of the now Krankenhaus Heckeshorn or Zehlendorf.  This was then confirmed in "Sirenen und gepackte Koffer" by Dietmar Arnold and Reiner Janick p. 74.  Alexander Omhoff identified the company, which reconstructed the bunker as a post war emergency hospital, and I were able to procure immediate post war drawing depicting, how the interior had been modified as Gef.Std. for Luftflotte Reich.  To me it looks as if the bunker was extensively and hastily modified when it was "inherited" from the Reichsluftschutzschule The bunker is in Baustarke "A".  The plan drawings are by me (© M. (SES) Svejgaard), based on the original drawings. Scale of drawings approx 1:500.  The outer measurements are approx 46 m long x 23 m wide x 21 m high.

Falck description.

As early as March 1945 Lft.Reich realized, which way the wind was blowing and started to relocate to locations away form the immediate path of the advancing allied armies.  And this resulted in five relocations in two month.  It is evident, that the locations were chosen from a requirement of connectivity and not facilities.  All of the locations chosen were close to a RV-Station.  Please see map below.  I am grateful to Mr. Rolf Grzywatz for his fine tuning of the locations.

For the lack of any other suitable facility in the area it is assumed that the Gef.Std. was housed in Gutshaus Quassel, which is also confirmed here:

  Braunfels, MUSKETIER.
This facility was an Ausw.Gef.Std. established for Lft. Reich for Unternehmen "Wacht am Rhein".  RV station 820 was located in the immediate area.  There are now indications that the Gef.Std. was located in Schloss Braunfels.
